Pacific Crossing Guide

The new edition of The Pacific Crossing Guide is just out. Written and edited by Francis Hawkings for the Royal Cruising Club Pilotage Foundation, and published by Bloomsbury/Adlard Coles, it is a comprehensive guide for anyone thinking about sailing across the planet’s largest ocean. I was honored to provide the bottom cover photograph. It captures Celeste beating up Ma’alea Bay on Maui in golden evening light, with the spray flying!

  1. We can feel the adrenaline pumping as the spray flies, … now that’s sailing!Of course, we used and loved the older version of The Pacific Crossing Guide.GREAT capture!!! All the best to you, C&L

  2. Hi yah all

Good to see you still out and about or land locked now?

Nancy and I are finishing up a house here in Mariposa, near Yosemite as our new land Base Camp. Close to my old climbing stomping grounds of Yosemite Valley.

Sold Shanachie some time back in NZ and soon to look for another boat-not going to build the next one.

Did you ever complete the NW passage?

    Best to you,

    cheers

    1. Hello Joe and Nancy!
I just sent you an email to the old Shanachie email I had – please let me know if you got it or if you have a new address. It’s so nice to hear from you!
Lots of news on this end, so I hope you got my email. No, never did complete the NW Passage. My father was very ill that summer so we went back to Dutch Harbor; I’m happy we did because it meant I got to see him before he died. Since then did a lot of sailing in the South Pacific and up to Hawaii; then life got more land-based, and I just earned my commercial pilot’s license. Very exciting!
Great to hear from you, please let me know about the email!
      Ellen
