Happy 2017!

Happy New Year to the Gone Floatabout subscribers! And welcome to our new subscribers – so glad you’re enjoying our blog!

To welcome in the new year, we thought it would be fun to look back on some of the highlights of a hectic but good 2016. Here’s one for each season:

Winter: Despite work and a bout with the flu, we managed to get in some great skiing on our days off:

Skiing in Switzerland

Spring: Two honors from our yacht clubs! Our “under/over” photo of Celeste in Arctic Ocean sea-ice appeared on the cover of the Ocean Cruising Club’s biannual journal, and in March, we traveled to New York to attend the Cruising Club of America’s annual Awards dinner, at which I received the Vilas Literary Prize:

Summer: Sailing Celeste east and south from Alaska’s Aleutian Islands was a voyage full of highlights:

Fall: It’s hard to choose between our last big hike in Switzerland and hiking around our new (temporary) home on the Olympic Peninsula. But I think we’ll have to go with Switzerland for the bittersweet quality it had as a farewell to our home of the past 6 years:swiss-hike

Here’s hoping everyone’s 2017 is full of health, kindness, good friends, and happy adventures!
