Yes, you read that right! We took exactly a week to get from our home base in Switzerland to our floating home in Dutch Harbor, Unalaska. We planned it that way, in order to see a lot along the way! But first we had a lot of packing up to do: warm clothes, camera gear, books, computers, goggles, sleeping bags, etc. etc.
June 6, 2015 dawned and we boarded the train from our home to the Geneva Airport. A few hours later we arrived in Reykjavik, Iceland! We marveled at the lava fields, snow-covered hills, and barren landscape still gripped in winter. But the graylag geese were arriving, so summer was on its way!
And of course, we had 24hr daylight, so close to the Arctic Circle. So we squeezed in as much as possible, visiting Thingvellir National Park, where the tectonic plates are pulling apart, the original Geyser from which all others take their name (it no longer erupts, though its neighbor does), and the famous Gullfoss waterfall, a huge multi-tiered cascade.
Unfortunately we didn’t have time to get too far away from Reykjavik, but we loved it all nonetheless and would like to go back and see some more out-of-the-way places. Then we were on the plane to Anchorage, Alaska, a 7hr+ flight over the top of the world, including an incredible view of the Greenland icecap!

The geyser looks amazing and the photo from the plane is fantastic. Gives new meaning to ” I’m on top if the world”. You really were.
